Tidal Basin Fieldtrip

Felicidad Nzang

On Wednesday 14/4/15 we went on a field trip in Washington dc. Our teacher took us there to see the Cherry Blossoms, it was a learning experience as many of us did not know there was a story behind The Cherry trees in the city. We had the opportunity to learn about the origin of the trees and the reason they are there, the trees came from Japan and they represent the friendship between the two countries. These trees have been here for more than a hundred years, without forgetting, the very first lot that was brought in from Japan had to be burnt because of the infestation of insects, after that a second lot was donated, how amazing is that, furthermore also learned about the Japanese pagoda and also the 300 hundred year old lantern that was also given to us by the Japanese.

We also visited The Thomas Jefferson Memorial. Among the things we learned, was also the fact that Cherry trees have to be handled with care, for them to have their pretty shape they need to be pruned, meaning they need to be trimmed of all impurities. I personally felt in love with the beautiful flowers. After the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, some people went home others remained behind with the teacher because they wanted to go to the museum. I was one of them, we had a wonderful time at museum and had lunch together.

Don’t want to sound patronizing but, need to say something out lout and, I think all my classmates will agree with me that our teacher is an incredible human being and the best teacher ever.
